Enfield Town fended off a two-goal comeback from Barnet to progress in the Middlesex Senior Challenge Cup on Monday night.

Town moved onto the next round winning 6-5 on penalties after the game finished 3-3 in normal time.

Dernell Wynter put the Towners ahead after 30 minutes before Harold Joseph added a second after the break.

The Bees did not give in and goals from Nana Kyei, Wesley Fonguck and Joe Payne overturned the two goal deficit.

And at the death Enfield forced penalties through Ricky Gabriel.

It took until the 21st minute for any action to being with Justin Amaluzor dragging a shot wide of the post.

Wynter missed a chance when former Bee Keir Dickson cut back for the forward who miscued and fired wide.

But he did not miss his chance just after the half an hour mark as he dipped a shot over Kai McKenzie-Lyle to open the scoring.

Heading into the second half Amaluzor almost equalised but it was Enfield who scored next with Joseph tapping home from a corner.

But Barnet got themselves back into the contest with Kyei tucking the ball into the empty net after Nathan McDonald made a good save but the ball ran loose.

And five minutes after pulling one back they were level as Fonguck strode through and slotted home.

With full-time quickly approaching Barnet’s Payne spied the opportunity to shoot from his own half, lobbing McDonald to give the home side the lead for the first time.

However, their lead was short lived as Gabriel headed home Devyne’s free-kick to lvel the scoring.

Both sides were immaculate from the spot until Kyei’s shot was saved enabling Dickson to win it for Town against his former side.

It has been a good few days for Enfield as on Saturday they managed to defeat Isthmian League Premier Division leaders Havant & Waterlooville 2-0.

The Towners fell out of the FA Trophy to 10-man Kings Langley the previous week and were looking to get a decent result in the league.

Town got off to a dream start when a deep cross from Mickey Parcell in the third minute found Tyler Campbell and his ball back into the area was forced over the line by Harry Ottaway.

Shortly afterwards the hosts could have equalised when Wes Fogden’s cross was eluded the head of Andreas Robinson.

Scott Shulton gave away a penalty knocking over Ben Swallow but Jason Prior fired well over the bar which proved to be a significant miss.

Town had a chance of their own to score the next goal when Bobby Devyne’s shot was blocked and Billy Crook fired over.

McDonald had to make his first real save of the game when Havant ran up the pitch five minutes before the break.

Going into the second half the visitors looked the more promising with Ottaway cutting inside but his shot lacked power and was easily collected by the Waterlooville keeper.

Around the hour mark, a great Town move ended with a shot from Shulton being pushed round the post before another dangerous cross came in for the hosts which came to nothing.

Chances were few and far between until super sub Tom Collins struck a low sharp drive beyond the outstretched Ryan Young to seal the victory with the Towners now eighth in the table.
