Denise Payet picked up some impressive victories as she represented England at the Italian Youth Open.
The 14-year-old Enfield County pupil won her group thanks to victories over opponents from Italy and San Marino and then beat Poland’s Agata Paszek 3-0 (11-9, 11-6, 11-9) in the last 64.
Her run was ended in the next round at the hands of Slovenia’s Katarina Strazar, who won 3-1 (7-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-9).
In the doubles, Payet and partner Jasmin Wong were beaten in the first round by tenth seeds Jana Bernard & Maelys Bahy of Belgium 3-0 (12-10, 11-8, 11-4).
In the team event, Payet and Wong beat Wales 3-0 in the group stage but were eliminated after defeat by the same margin to Hungary, who went on to take the silver medal.
