Spurs midfielder Steven Pienaar has, as expected, completed his return to Everton on a permanent basis.

The South African international has signed a four-year deal after moving back to the Goodison Park club in a deal worth £4.5m.

Pienaar told evertontv: “I am happy to be here. It took a few weeks to sort out but I am delighted to be back and excited to play for Everton.

“There was no doubt in my mind that I would be back here. At the end of the season I told the manager how I felt and I am happy now it is all done.”

Having found his opportunities at White Hart Lane limited, the 30-year-old was brought back to Merseyside by David Moyes on loan for the second half of last season and soon looked back to his best, scoring four goals in 14 games.

Pienaar originally joined Everton in 2007 on loan from Borussia Dortmund before making the switch permanent a year later.
