Tottenham Hotspur’s Giovani dos Santos scored both goals as Mexico completed a 2-0 victory over Gabon at the Olympic Games.
The attacking midfielder started the match on the bench but was introduced just after half-time with the score level at 0-0.
The former Barcelona man quickly made the breakthrough as he collected a clever backheel from Oribe Peralta before firing a low shot into the bottom corner of Didier Ovondo’s net.
His second arrived from the spot in the closing minutes of the match. Gabon defender Henri Ndong pulled over Peralta in the box, earning a red card in the process, and Dos Santos comfortably smashed home the penalty.
Mexico now go into their final group match knowing anything but a defeat will see them through to the knock-out stages.
