Roberto Di Matteo has sought to play down the significance of Chelsea’s highly controversial second goal against Spurs by pointing out they scored another three to win 5-1 and set up an FA Cup Final with Liverpool next month.

The Blues were only leading 1-0 courtesy of Didier Drogba’s strike late in the first half when referee Martin Atkinson incorrectly adjudged that a Juan Mata shot had crossed the line.

Although Gareth Bale pulled one back, Chelsea went on to win comfortably as Ramires, Frank Lampard and Flourent Malouda all netted and the interim head coach said: “I think our team played very well today. I thought it was a great performance by our team. We’re pleased to have scored those goals. It’s a boost of confidence for us.”

Asked if he had seen the second goal again as it had not crossed the line, Di Matteo responded: “Apparently it hasn’t so in this case we were on the lucky side but how many times before have we had decisions go against us? We scored not just two goals, we scored five, so I’m not sure how much it would matter.

“I talked before the game in my last press conference about the consistency of using the video technology and I’m still of the same opinion.”
