Enfield Town manager Bradley Quinton insists there is no pressure on his side despite needing a win in their final game to reach the Isthmian Premier Division play-offs.

The Towners are fifth in the table and have a one-point advantage over Metropolitan Police heading into this weekend’s decider. Enfield host relegated Witham Town and a victory will secure a play-off spot.

Quinton has steered the club up the table since taking charge in August and the manager insists few people would have predicted the team would be in with a shout of the top-five heading into the final match.

The Towners boss said: “When I first took over if someone had said to me that we would be in this position I would probably have told them they need to get checked out by a doctor.

“There is no pressure on me or the players. If anyone is feeling it then they can come and talk to me and I will explain where we have come from this season. I will show them how well we have done this season and it’s not been just about the team. It’s been down to the whole squad from one to 18.”

Quinton is full of admiration for his players after their performances this season and insists they should be heralded regardless of whether they secure a play-off place.

He said: “It’s an achievement for all of them and it would be a great feeling to reach the play-offs. I’ve experienced it before with Braintree and I would just encourage my players to go out there and enjoy it.

“Deep down I knew they had the ability and they have put in so much hard work. I’m so proud of what they’ve achieved whether we make it or not. They deserve the opportunity to make the play-offs.

“It’s been a fantastic season and I’m proud of them. I’m thoroughly looking forward to the game and if we could get into the play-offs it would be a great achievement on my CV.

“It’s great for the club and the community. We will prepare properly for it and we’re just looking forward to it and hope that we can get the three points.”

Despite being heavy favourites to defeat Witham, the Enfield manager is adamant no-one will take their opponents lightly.

Quinton said: “They are already relegated so all they can try to do is spoil our party. There will be no complacency from our guys. We have it in our hands and as long as we win then we will qualify. All we have to do is worry about ourselves and we will do all we can to achieve the win.”

The Towners were just minutes away from sealing a place in the play-offs but a late equaliser in their 1-1 draw at East Thurrock United denied them.

Enfield had the ball in the net after 52 minutes when Joe Ellul headed home but it was chalked off for an infringement.

But the visitors scored the opener in the last 20 minutes when Bobby Devyne steered the ball towards the goal and defender Tom Stephen diverted it past his own goalkeeper.

Enfield were heading for victory but Ricky Gabriel fouled David Bryant in the area and Sam Higgins fired home the 82nd-minute penalty.

Gabriel was dismissed late on for a second booking and Quinton admitted the team were disappointed after coming so close to victory.

“It would have been ideal knowing that we had already qualified,” Quinton said.

“We could have put the game to bed and had a disallowed goal but I still don’t know why it was ruled out.

“As a manager you try to keep on top of the game. But we’ve made one mistake and been punished for it. It was a silly foul by Ricky but he has been exceptional since I came in.

“We learn from our mistakes. Everyone was a bit down afterwards and it felt like a loss. But we have to pick them up and we will prepare in the right way.”
