Winchmore Hill and Enfield Hockey Club juniors fulfilled a dream by playing at the Lea Valley Hockey Centre in London's Olympic Park on Sunday.
Members aged between six and 16 demonstrated their skills on the same pitch used by Olympians during the 2012 Games in London, taking part in a a variety of drills that focused on outwitting opponents.
Skills learned included passing, individual stick skill and player awareness, channelling players and improving tackling technique and shooting.
The two hour session culminated in the group playing 7-a-side games to demonstrate the techniques learned.
Youth co-ordinator Lorna Robertson commented: "It was very satisfying to see so many kids enjoying their special outing to the Olympic Park. The coach trip was full of exuberant kids, and it was a shame we couldn't accommodate all the people as some had to make their own way there.
"It is nice to think that what started off as a light-hearted comment at the Junior section's Christmas party made the dreams of around 30 children become a reality as they played their hearts out on the same pitch that has seen so much world-class hockey played."
She added: "I think that all the coaches and helpers enjoyed it just as much as the kids and the weather was ideal for all the spectating parents. It is great to have such a world class facility so nearby and we hope to make this an annual treat for our growing section."
