Hamburg chief executive Dietmar Beiersdorfer has confirmed the Bundesliga club are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Lewis Holtby.

The 23-year-old midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham after falling out of favour under Tim Sherwood at Spurs.

Hamburg have been heavily linked with a move for Holtby and already have former Spurs playmaker Rafael van der Vaart on their books.

Speaking to German newspaper Hamburger Abdenblatt, Beiersdorfer said: "I would be lying if I said that we have nothing to do with Holtby.

"We need to allow for all possibilities.

"Holtby is a good young and German player, who does not win a lot of minutes at Tottenham."

Holtby, who joined Spurs from Schalke in January 2013, has never been a regular at White Hart Lane and despite being brought back to the club by new head coach Mauricio Pochettino, has made just one substitute appearance in the Premier League this season.
