Andros Townsend looks set to remain at Tottenham Hotspur, with new boss Mauricio Pochettino reportedly keen to keep the player despite interest from Southampton.

Tottenham rejected a £10m bid from the Saints for the England winger more than a week ago and it has been reported that the south coast side have made another £12m offer.

But Townsend, who signed a four-year contract with Spurs in October, looks set to stay at White Hart Lane, even though he has not played a central part in Pochettino’s team over the last few weeks; being left out of the squad for the 4-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers and playing as substitute in the opening game against West Ham United.

Former Southampton manager Pochettino has previously insisted he hopes the midfielder will stay at Tottenham, saying: “He missed the World Cup because of injury but we need to recover a player like him because he has great potential and very good quality.”

The club’s rejection of Southampton’s latest offer of £12million follows QPR’s earlier bid of £10m for the winger which was also rebuffed by Spurs.

It has been reported Townsend is fearful for his future at the club but Sky Sports have claimed the player is now ‘determined to fight his way into the side’.
