I see that as Joan Ryan gears up her campaign to be elected again in Enfield North, she hits the national press, for all the wrong reasons. Although, I doubt if too many long-standing residents have forgotten her shameful and self-justified attitude over helping herself to large amounts of taxpayers’ money ‘because it was within her rules’.

Along with other equally grasping specimens, these candidates, having put their heads above the stones they should have crawled under, are now being dubbed ‘re-treads’.

The article reminds us that besides spending thousands of pounds refurbishing her actual home in Enfield before ‘flipping’ it to another property, she had to be ordered to repay £5,000 in ‘over-claimed’ mortgage interest. She was also named as having claimed the second highest amount on postage – this from someone who wasn’t even in a serious ministerial position.

When she started to rent a flat in London, in order to be near the house for late night meetings, did it not occur to her that thousands of her constituents spent years going in and out of London at all hours of the day and night in order to make a living? How we laughed at her inability to take a late train or even a taxi home because it was past what, 10pm?

It beggars belief that she would have the effrontery to put herself up for re-election with her past history and contempt for the residents in this constituency.
