An interesting article in your paper (‘Police step up to tackle challenging crime levels’, Enfield Independent, July 16) stated police are stepping up their activity to combat recent higher levels of crime and burglary, particularly along the Hertford Road.

Whilst I have every respect for the police and all that they do, this lies at odds with me regarding the council’s recent decision to tax all private landlords in order to combat ASBO tenants. As if taxing private landlords is going to make someone else behave. Police already have the powers to act in cases of anti-social behaviour.

Excuse me if I smell a rat with this tax – which we will only pass onto our tenants anyway – perhaps the public are not aware of this, and they should be.

I just wanted to express my opinion on this issue and this letter will yet again be going to my local councillor, Enfield landlords and Facebook.
