I agree with GA Musey that the car is an essential part of family life – and more than that, cars are a lifeline for many elderly and disabled people.

If cars are unable to park in Green Lanes how are people with limited mobility going to be able to get to local businesses and the doctors’ surgery at Woodberry Avenue, for example?

Are they supposed to strap their Zimmer frames on their backs and get on a bike? These people rely on cars to get to their destinations.

Pedestrianisation was tried in Hoddesdon some years ago and so many businesses closed that it became a ghost town and the scheme had to be discontinued. The consequences of the “Mini-Holland” scheme have not been thought through properly, likely because of the attraction of £110million in the coffers.

I am in favour of safer cycling but the streets are for everyone to share, be they motorists, cyclists or pedestrians. What is needed is simple courtesy, common sense, and respect for each other. Making drivers the pariahs of society is not the answer.
