I have to say that after a couple of weeks of walking around my local area, I have been astounded at how many people believe in the long forgotten ‘Mattress Fairy’.

Some people still like to think that if they drag their old ripped, stained, smelly, old mattress into the road and lay it nice and neatly in a bush or even on the side of the road that during the night they will be visited by the Mattress Fairy.

The Mattress Fairy and her band of duvet dwarfs drive around the borough in a sparkly funked up van scouring the streets for these discarded unloved soft slabs of sleepy heaven, where they pick them up and take them to a special place. This place is ‘Divan Heaven’, it’s where homeless mattresses can live out the rest of their sad existence in a place specially designed for them.

The rest of us, who don’t believe in the Mattress Fairy, call this place Barrowell Green Recycling Centre.

Take your old mattress down the dump instead of leaving it out so everyone else can see what an unfortunately disturbed sleeper you are. It’s not nice for you and it’s not nice for your neighbours. Have some pride.

There are numbers you can ring to have this stuff removed, so just because you can’t get to the dump you don’t have to live in one, or subject your neighbours to live in one either.
