A sparkling gold post box can be spotted in Enfield Town to celebrate an Olympic gold won by an Enfield athlete.

Royal Mail staff started painting the dazzling post box in Colman Parade in Southbury Road at 9am today, less than 24 hours after Enfield’s Charlotte Dujardin won Britain’s first ever Olympic gold in the team dressage.

The 27-year-old wowed crowds yesterday with her ten-year-old Olympic horse Valegro, completing the course in Greenwich Park with the highest score out of the entire competition – 83.286 per cent.

To celebrate Team GB’s achievements, Royal Mail is painting a post box gold in the home town of every British athlete who wins a gold medal in this year’s Olympics.

It is such a shame that the Royal Mail have done such a shoddy paint job. The gold paint is already coming off to show the red underneath. Clearly the post box wasn't sanded, primed or prepared in any way for the new paint. Makes a mockery of the whole thing really.
