A mother-of-three whose home was destroyed in a “horrific” fire last week has appealed for help in finding her dog.

Kathleen Carter, 46, husband Ray, and their three children escaped the blaze at their house in Lavender Hill, near the junction with Shooters Road, which completely destroyed both floors and the roof last Tuesday afternoon.

The family lost some pets in the fire, but believe their four-year-old dog Maizie was not killed and are appealing for help in tracing the large white Jack Russell, who has a black and tan face.

Chase Farm worker Mrs Carter said: “We’ve lost everything including most of the animals, but there’s a chance that Maizie wasn’t killed and is out there.”

Investigators believe the fire, which took firefighters nearly two hours to bring under control, was caused by a cigarette or match and was an accident.

Mrs Carter added: “It’s been a horrific experience all round and the whole community was shocked at how much damage there was – we’ve had people we’ve never met come to us in tears after seeing it.

“But I feel very calm about it because we’re all still alive to tell the tale and it could have been a lot worse – we’re a close family and I’m just very glad that we have my wonderful parents to help.”
