Work has begun on the redevelopment of a hospital after its latest planning application received unanimous approval from the council.

Chase Farm Hospital, The Ridgeway, plans to build a new hospital, up to 500 homes and a new primary school on its site.

Its application, which was granted by Enfield Council’s planning committee on January 26, covered the appearance, size and layout of the new plans.

David Sloman, chief executive of the Royal Free London Trust that runs the hospital, said: “We are delighted with the planning committee’s decision to approve our application.

“We have worked closely with commissioners and clinicians to ensure that the design improves patient accessibility, enhances our expansion capability and provides real value for money.

“This decision will allow us to transform Chase Farm Hospital into a world class healthcare facility that provides an excellent environment for both patients and staff.”

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust has been granted three separate approvals over the past year but the latest decision has meant that work has finally been able to start.

The urgent care centre has now been moved to prepare for the main building works and some unused buildings have been demolished.

Royal Free London are also planning the development so that “all services remain operational throughout construction and disruption to patients is minimised.”

Construction of the new hospital will start later this year.
