A golf club owner has revealed his fury after another attempted burglary last night.

Jeremy Sturgess, director of Trent Park Golf Club, in Bramley Road, Southgate, is fuming at the high levels of break-ins which tallies to seven in the past six months.

The director of more than 20 years now fears for the future of the site and has offered a £5,000 reward to help find those who are breaking in and vandalising the site.

He told the Enfield Independent: “It was really bad over the winter months where we found our golf buggies all over the place after they were driven up and down the golf course and some have been burnt down.

“We are a small business and cannot continue to insure these buggies, it is hitting us hard. I am spitting mad that this has remerged once more.”

The director revealed that the company pays as much as £60,000 in business rates and said the whole area has been affected.

He said: “It is not just the golf club but the country park has also been hit by vandalism. It must be the same people targeting us over and over again and we are fed up of being left exposed. Buggies cost well over £3,000 to insure.”

As well as calling on people to help catch the vandals, Mr Sturgess is contemplating applying to have permanent accommodation on the site in a bid to negate the persistent break-ins.

He said: “Hopefully the reward can help people remain extra vigilant whilst on the course. We are considering making a planning application to have someone living on this site.

“This should help with the break-in problem but we did not want it to come to this. The whole area has seen break-ins and it is a real shame to see it decline because of this.”
