Enfield Borough Council is calling for people to give their views about plans for the Ladderswood Estate during a meeting this month.

According to the current scheme, the 1960s New Southgate estate will be demolished to make way for 517 family and single occupancy homes.

Shops, a community centre and an 80-bedroom hotel are also part of the proposals.

The 7.30pm planning panel meeting will be held at Garfield Primary School in Springfield Road in New Southgate on Tuesday, November 20.

The council selected developers Mulalley and Company Limited and One Housing Group through a tender process.

Mulalley director Eamon O’Malley said: “This scheme is progressing towards an important stage.

"We are interested to hear what people have to say at the planning panel meeting and will await the final recommendations from the planning committee.

“This is a significant scheme for us and our partners and we are keen to provide a development which regenerates and uplifts this strategic part of Enfield.”

Works is expected to start as early as 2013, with the first new homes being ready by the end of 2014.

Cllr Ahmet Oykener, cabinet member for housing, said: “Ladderswood is our first housing development in 40 years.

“It is an exciting building project offering the community in this part of the borough good modern housing for small and larger households and an infrastructure that both residents and visitors require.

“It heralds the start of house building developments right across the borough.”

Staff from Mulalley and One Housing Group will give short presentations during the meeting.
