Enfield could soon hold the world record for the largest number of fairies in one place at one time.

Hundreds of people donned wings, tutus and a wand at the Come Away with the Faeries in Enfield Town Park on Sunday in a bid to break the previous record.

The Three Wishes Faery Festival in Cornwall made the record books in June this year with 279 people dressing as fairies.

Although organisers have to wait a few months for adjudicators to verify their record attempt through checking video footage, they are hopeful they are the new record holders.

Rebecca Leggett, who organised the festival with friends Lynn Saunders and Kerrie Bullen, said: “It went amazingly well, we were really pleased. It was wonderful and the rain held out until right at the end, so we had a massive turnout.

“We didn’t know what we were going to get because it all depended on the weather. It was really popular so we are really proud.”

She said she even saw a dog sporting a fairy costume and was pleased with how many people got into the spirit of the occasion.

She added: “We need to have that signed off before it is official and make sure it is all kosher so we will see what happens.”

The two-day fairy festival is the third organised by the trio and aims to appeal to children as well as bring the community together.

However, the group are now in talks to secure funding for future years because it is becoming more popular than they initially imagined.

She added: “We put so much hard work over the last few months we really need funding to be able to continue with it.”

Although it is difficult to gauge how many people visited, Ms Leggett believes it is the busiest year yet, with thousands of people attending.

Guests also enjoyed a holistic area, a circus tent, workshops, water zorbing as well as a bouncy castle.
