Hundreds of fairies are expected to gather in Enfield today.

The unusual sight is part of a world record attempt at the Come Away with the Faeries festival in Enfield Town Park for the largest amount of people dressed as fairies at one time.

The current record was set in June this year at the Three Wishes Faery Festival in Cornwall, with 277 people donning wings, a tutu and a wand.

Lynn Saunders, who set up the annual festival three years ago with friends Kerrie Bullen and Rebecca Leggett, said: “We are hoping to blow them out of the water.

“There’s been a tonne of paper work involved but we decided, ‘come on, let’s just do it.’ It’s lovely for the kids, and that is what it is all about.”

She added: “I hope it’s going to be a massive event – the weather looks good so I don’t know why not.”

Although she does not know how many people will take part, more than 1,000 have said they will attend of Facebook so she expects a large turn out.

Anyone who would like to take part in the record attempt can register on the day. They must wear wings, a tutu and a wand to get involved.

The two-day festival, which runs between 11am and 7pm, is also packed with a holistic area, a circus tent, workshops, water zorbing as well as a bouncy castle.

Three independent adjudicators will attend to see if the record is broken.

Last year, more than 4,000 people visited the festival, which was held in Forty Hall.
