A new construction centre will open as part of an Enfield college this September in a bid to get more people learning the trade.

The state of the art centre, in Hertford Road, cost £2 million to build and will form part of the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London.

The new construction hub will provide hundreds of places for students to take courses in brickwork, painting and decorating, carpentry, plumbing or electrical courses.

The college, which also has a centre in Tottenham, brought construction courses to its Enfield centre in 2010 to meet further demand.

The courses had been offer to students at the centre in Tottenham for more than 20 years.

Paul Head, principal and chief executive of the college, said: “Regeneration in Enfield is high on the agenda, with the council investing and improving many of its homes, estates and neighbourhoods.

“This will bring a lot of jobs and developers to the borough, which means the opening of our new centre is very positive for local residents to get skilled and take advantage of these new opportunities.”

The college works with some of the biggest construction firms in London, including Mulalley, Ardmore, United House and Lee Valley to help find employment for students.

The building is expected to be finished next month, but will be kitted out ready for its new students in time for September.
