Commuters are being offered a free book with their coffee if they sign up to Enfield’s library services in a reading initiative.
Customers of My Coffee Stop, at Enfield Chase Station, were offered a copy of the Charles Dickens classic A Tale of Two Cities yesterday as part of World Book Night, set up to give away a million free books.
Peter Barker, of charity The Reading Agency, spent the day on the station’s platform giving out application forms for Enfield’s libraries with a voucher for the book to be claimed when they signed up.
He said: “Each of the one million books being given away as part of World Book Night has a library joining message inside the front cover. I wanted to take that a step further.
“With this year being Dickens’ bicentenary, A Tale of Two Cities was an obvious choice. It’s a fantastic story that I’d happily recommend anyone read.”
