A PUBLIC meeting will be held tonight to gauge opinion in Enfield on the causes of August's riots.

Councillor Christine Hamilton will chair tonight's meeting, which forms part of Enfield Council's inquiry into the rioting and looting seen in the borough.

The conclusions will then feed into the national public inquiry into the events in early August, which spread from London to other cities across England.

Joining this evening's meeting will be Darra Singh, a former council chief executive who is chairing the national inquiry.

He said: “If you were affected by the riots we want to hear your views. This will allow us to start reflecting on what might have caused a small minority in Enfield to riot and consider what lessons can be learnt for the future.

“We want give all the people affected the chance to have their say and encourage local residents to attend this public meeting. All views are welcome.”

The Enfield review began last month, to “establish why the disturbances took place and why rioters took part in them”. It is expected to deliver its findings early next year.

The meeting tonight is being held at the Dugdale Centre, in London Road, starting at 6pm.
