AN ENFIELD school’s new kitchen and dining area, costing £255,000, was unveiled today.

St Andrew’s Southgate Primary School’s new facilities mean pupils will be treated to nutritious and healthy school meals all prepared on site.

Previously the school had to have its meals prepared and delivered from another primary school nearby.

The new kitchen also means the school will meet with the government’s healthy eating initiative.

Headteacher Louise Whitaker said: “The new kitchen will have a massive impact on the quality of food we serve to our children and help to support the healthy eating lessons they receive in the classroom.

"This is a fantastic investment in our children's future. We want them to learn the benefits of eating good quality, healthy and nutritious food.”

Councillor Ayfer Orhan, for schools and children’s services, said: "School meals are often a child's main meal of the day and it has a huge impact on their health, encouraging sensible eating habits for life.

"We want to provide the best possible quality of food we can to our pupils ensuring they get the nourishment to thrive in school."

The new facilities were paid for by Enfield Council, grant funding, the school and the London Diocesan Board for Schools.
