A popular Enfield park was awarded its first Green Flag four days after its centenary celebrations this week.

BushHill Park became the eighth green space in Enfield to receive Green Flag status from The Civic Trust Awards scheme.

Councillor Chris Bond, cabinet member for the environment, celebrated with the Friends of Bush Hill Park on Thursday.

Cllr Bond said: “Enfield’s parks are jewels in the borough’s crown. All our parks are prized by the council and residents. I am particularly happy for the Friends of Bush Hill Park who have worked so hard to win a Green Flag.”

Friends of Bush Hill Park chairman Maria Tolly said members were very proud of the award.

She said: “We want to thank all those who have supported our efforts. The council, the community, and especially those who look after the trees, the grass and the flowers, and make it look so inviting.”

Seven Green Flags were renewed last year for Forty Hall, Trent Country, Grovelands, Town, Jubilee, Oakwood and Pymmes parks.

BushHill Parkalso received the London Mayor’s Safer Parks Silver Award for 2011/12.
