PLANS for a Greek Orthodox free school in north London have been lodged with the Department for Education.
The group, which has the backing of the respected Russell Education Trust and Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain, want to set up the first Greek Orthodox state secondary school in the UK.
Yiannis Pareas, who chairs the committee of parents driving the bid, said, if approved, the school would aim to be judged as "outstanding" by OfSTED within two years of opening.
The application to open a free school now rests with the Department for Education, which is expected to announce whether it has been successfully approved in September.
Mr Pareas said the committee will now look across north London, especially on the boroughs of Barnet, Haringey, and Enfield, to find a suitable site to locate the school.
