MOTORISTS are expecting extensive delays this evening after snow fell across the borough.

Traffic is crawling along the M25 between junctions at Enfield and Watford, with warnings of up to an hour's delay.

The snow fall this afternoon is causing traffic to move slower than usual along the A406 around the roadworks area.

There are no major incidents reported on the roads, but the adverse weather conditions are causing major delays across the capital.

Train operators First Capital Connect has urged passengers to consider catching an earlier train home, and is already warning of a reduced service on its lines through Enfield.

Chief Superintendent David Snelling, head of the Met Police Traffic Unit, called for drivers to only use their vehicles when absolutely necessary during the adverse weather this weekend.

He said: “Always check the weather forecasts before travelling and allow extra time for your journey to avoid rushing. Taking a little extra time and care over your journey can make a big difference to your safety.

"Drivers need to take special care when driving in bad weather especially when it affects road conditions and visibility. Driving in snow and ice is very different from driving on a dry and sunny day and can affect both your ability to drive and your vehicle.”

Enfield Council has put extra salt bins across the borough ahead of the snowfall to allow residents to grit their pavements.
