A FILM by an Enfield student will be shown at Cannes Film Festival this week.

Navarro Aydemir was "overwhelmed" when he found out his short film "Henry", which he made as a university project, was selected for screening at the internationally renowned event.

The 23-year-old studies BA Film, Video and Interactive Arts at Middlesex University’s Cat Hill campus.

He made Henry in response to the brief “mystery”.

Two other Middlesex students, David Irons and Awat Ali, have also had their work selected to be screened.

Mr Aydemir, who filmed the piece in two consecutive 12-hour days, said: “With Cannes, I was just overwhelmed when I found out, just really excited.

"The film’s also been selected at a few other festivals around Europe.”

The filmmaker, who is in the final year of his BA programme, said he would be using this year at Cannes as a "learning experience" that he hoped to build on.

He has just finished another short film called "Checkmate" and is looking at the possibility of working with production companies when he graduates.

Helen Bendon, one of Mr Aydemir’s lecturers at Middlesex University, said: “Cannes is a highlight of the film industry calendar and Navarro has the opportunity to capture the attention not only of film lovers and media from around the world, but also of industry professionals.

"So, as well as a great accolade for him, this is an opportunity to showcase his exceptional work to top-level industry people."
