Leytonstone-based theatre group the Woodhouse Players is going back in time to 1981 for its next show, Stags and Hens, by Willy Russell.
As the title suggests, the play focuses on a couple about to get married, Linda and Dave. Unbeknown to each other, they have decided to hold their stag and hen parties in the same tacky club in Liverpool.
The play, written by the author of Shirley Valentine and Educating Rita, is set in the club’s toilets, where Linda is having second thoughts and Dave has passed out.
Things start looking even shakier for the couple when an old flame of Linda’s turns up boasting about a flash life in London, and she has to decide whether she should dump Dave in favour of him.
Director Anna Heinink says: “Stags and Hens is a funny and perceptive play that will appeal to anyone who remembers the ‘80s or is glad they missed them.”
Stags and Hens is at The Welsh Church Hall, High Road, Leytonstone on Friday and Saturday, May 28 and 29, and Friday and Saturday, June 4 and 5, at 8pm, Saturday matinees at 3pm. Details: 020 8504 3872, www.woodhouseplayers.co.uk
