A MODEST school which gained an outstanding in nearly every area of a recent inspection will celebrate with a fundraising fayre this month.

At Andrew’s C E school, Churchbury Lane, Enfield, was awarded an outstanding by inspectors in March and wants to celebrate its achievements in its Summer Fayre.

They have invited Britain’s Got Talent dance sensation Stavros Flatley to open the fayre, though he will be keeping both feet on the ground as he is apparently under strict instructions not to dance from music mogul Simon Cowell.

The primary school was judged as being outstanding in every category but three in its recent Oftsed inspection report.

In fact, one of the only things letting it down was the fact that it was not good enough at communicating how outstanding it was, inspectors said.

In its letter to pupils, the schools watchdog praised the fact that pupils were proud of the school, adding: “The people who lead your school know what to do to make the school better and they put your needs first. To help them carry on making your excellent school even better we have suggested that teachers …make sure that everyone knows what an excellent school you go to.”

Children were described as “well-behaved and sociable, independent learners”, with high level skills in literacy and numeracy.

Headteacher Faith Hood said she was “delighted, although it was no surprise given the expertise, enthusiasm and hard work of the whole St Andrew’s team.”

In characteristically modest fashion, Deputy Head Louise Yarwood said the school "didn’t want to just ring up" the paper and boast about the inspection result.

She said: “We thought we would just try and promote the results of the inspection through an event so that we give the impression that we have a lot of fun”.

The public fayre, which will feature a host of games for children and stalls for adults, will be held on Saturday May 16 from 12-3pm in the school playing field.
