ANOTHER blooming season of gardening has begun, with residents encouraged to put the finishing touches to their patches of turf for the borough's annual competition.

Enfield in Bloom, which is run and funded by the council, comprises 20 awards for everything from best small front garden to best all-year-round garden to best pub garden, while those that attract native wildlife and are environmentally sustainable will also be recognised.

This year, a new allotment category has been introduced to promote the growing of fruit and vegetables.

Judging takes place from June 11 to 25 and entries are also placed into the London in Bloom Competition.

The awards were launched last week at Enfield’s Civic Centre by the mayor and residents can enter now for free by filling in an application form. A judging ceremony will take place at the Royal Chace Hotel on November 12.

All gardens must be visible to the public except the Environmental Garden, which can be a back garden.

Last year the borough, which employs an Enfield in Bloom manager and horticultural officer, also scooped a silver gilt award in the London in Bloom awards.
