A man has been found guilty of attempted murder after trying to shoot someone dead over a £3.50 drug debt.

Marcus Adepoju, of Claremont Street, Edmonton, was convicted of multiple gun and drug offences after a trial at Woolwich Crown Court that concluded on Friday (February 23).

The incident happened in April 2023 when police were called to a house on Nelgarde Road, in Catford, Lewisham, to reports of a man who had been shot through the window by a masked man.

Three shots that were fired at him had missed him narrowly, but caused extensive damage to his property and gave him superficial wounds from glass shards.

The Metropolitan Police said detectives immediately launched an investigation, carrying out extensive CCTV enquiries.

They said footage showed the suspect walking to the scene from a house in Laleham Road in, Hither Green, Lewisham, and returning there later.

Officers analysed people going in and out of the property and saw a man - later identified as Marcus Adepoju - travelling from the house to a storage facility near Forest Hill, Lewisham.

They recovered two guns and some ammunition, drugs, cash and knives from the unit, and found another storage facility linked to Adepoju that also contained more ammunition, cash and drugs.

The Met further revealed that a forensic examination of one of the seized guns linked the shooting in Catford and another incident in March 2023 in which a bullet hole was found in a lorry in Forest Hill.

Adepoju was stopped by officers in a car in Chingford in Epping Forest, where he was found carrying keys for the house in Laleham Road and the two storage units.

Detectives also analysed his phone and saw images of a third gun.

Adepoju - who was also a music producer under the stage name ‘Menace to the Society’- pleaded guilty to three counts of possession of a firearm, money laundering, possession with intent to supply class A drugs and possession of bladed articles at an earlier hearing.

But he was found guilty of attempted murder, possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life and a further count of possession with intent to supply class A drugs on February 23.

Another 60-year-old man, Francis Ajeigbe, who was arrested by the police during a search of the house in Laleham Road, was also found guilty of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and money laundering.

Both men are due to be sentenced at the Woolwich Crown Court on Friday (April 12).

Detective Constable John Nightingale, a Trident detective from Specialist Crime, called Adepoju an “extremely dangerous individual” who had no qualms about shooting a man through a window on a busy residential street.

He said: “It is only through sheer good fortune that the victim was not more seriously injured or killed.

“Keeping Londoners safe is our top priority and reducing gun crime is a key part of this.

“As this case shows, we know gun crime is closely linked to drugs and we will continue to use all of our resources to take both off the streets of our capital."
