A nursing home may have been saved from closure.

Councillors at a Haringey Council’s Adult and Health Scrutiny Panel meeting on Thursday February 8 recommended the closure of Osborne Grove nursing home be paused.

Haringey Liberal Democrats welcomed the news.

Cllr Clive Carter said: “You cannot listen to residents and their families without being concerned about the closure.

“We heard time and again that many of them are simply too frail to be safely moved.

“At the meeting we heard from a representative of the organisation that inspects nursing homes say that whilst they recognise that a home which is rated as ‘Requires Improvement’ needs to improve they would want to work with the home to ensure it continues to improve.

“There have been genuine concerns that the care wasn’t up to standard when Osborne Grove was rated as ‘Inadequate’, but it has recently been re-inspected and moved up to ‘Requires Improvement’.

“We would hope that with all the resources that the Council is putting in that the home will continue to improve.

“Once the options appraisal has been published, there will be the opportunity for an informed discussion around the future of this home that includes everyone.

“I would urge the Cabinet to listen to their Scrutiny Committee and not close Osborne Grove before that can take place.”

Located near Finsbury Park Osborne Grove is home to 32 people.
