A “callous” man has been convicted of mugging a blind pensioner.
Darren Neville was found guilty yesterday (Thursday, October 6) of robbing a partially-sighted 71-year-old man in Fore Street, Edmonton.
Neville, who police say is “of no fixed abode but from the Edmonton area”, pleaded guilty at Wood Green Crown Court and will be sentenced on November 4.
At 10.20am on July 2, the victim was walking home along Fore Street after he had gone shopping. He had withdrawn over £400 in cash from a machine.
As he turned into an alley from Fore Street onto Folkestone Road he was approached by 43-year-old Neville who punched him in the face.
The victim fell and suffered a head injury, and had to stay in hospital for three weeks.
Neville stole a number of items from him, including over £400 in cash, and ran off leaving the pensioner on the ground. He was arrested on July 27.
Neville was arrested on 27 July following a Met police appeal.
DC Stuart Miller of Edmonton police said: "This was a particularly callous attack given the age of the victim and his severely limited eyesight.
"I am pleased that the overwhelming evidence against Neville left him with no option other than to plead guilty."
