A woman discovered a box of rotting sheep heads on a playing field.

The four decapitated heads were found in Queen Street Playing Fields in Edmonton as the woman on Sunday.

The woman has reported the grisly find – contained within a Yorkshire Country Meats box - to both Enfield and Haringey Councils, but as of Tuesday evening the heads were still there.

She said: “As I was walking past I could smell rotting flesh, it was really strong. I thought it might be dead rats.

“When I looked and saw what it was, I was shocked. It’s really horrendous.

“They look like quite young sheep, with the tight curly hair. I don’t really know how they got there.

“This is an open field. A dog could have found it and got ill, or a child playing could have seen it. Something like this should not be there.”

She said Enfield Council had promised the heads would be removed within 24 hours on Monday, although their website says dead animals will be taken away in four hours, but so far they are still there.

It is not yet known how the heads came to be in the field.

Enfield Council said the field, despite being in Edmonton, is the responsibility of Haringey, but said they would be happy to work with the neighbouring authority.

Haringey Council have been contacted for comment.
