Neighbours have been left baffled after police spent four days investigating a small hole in an Enfield park.
A forensics tent was erected earlier this month in Hillyfields Park, Clay Hill, and according to residents there was a constant police presence for several days.
One Crews Hill resident, who wished to stay anonymous, said he had asked the police what was going on while walking his dog.
He was told inside the forensics tent was a smaller tent – and in that tent was a hole in the ground.
He said he and neighbours had discussed whether the hole may be related to Hatton Gardens.
Five of the people sentenced for their role in the £14m break-in and theft from vaults last April are from Enfield, with millions in goods stolen yet to be recovered.
He said: “The police were parked there for four days solid, when I asked them they said they were investigating a hole that had been dug.
“I worried it might be a dead body, but when I returned today and saw the hole it was only small - if you were going to bury some treasure, it would be a hole just like that.
“It is a bit mysterious – we wonder if it has something to do with Hatton Gardens.”
