UKIP's candidate in Enfield North believes it was an upset that the Joan Ryan won the seat back from Nick de Bois this morning.
The Labour candidate received 1,083 more votes than the former Tory MP.
Deborah Carins, of UKIP, was standing in the constituency for the first time and polleded more than 4,100 votes, a number which could have swung the election back in de Bois’ favour.
Speaking to the Enfield Independent after the vote, Ms Cairns said: “Well, it has been a great experience. I helped my partner last year in the locals. I am quite surprised that Joan Ryan got in from what people on the doorsteps were telling me.
“All is fair in love and war. I think if you run a clean campaign you get the right results and I am quite proud of myself in my first campaign.
“We have more members and people have more courage to go forward and build the party."
Ms Cairns also revealed that she will be back for more in five years' time.
