An anti-extremist group discussed what drove people towards radicalisation during a visit to a sixth form.

Dr Usama Hasan from The Quilliam Foundation, the UKs first anti-extremist think-tank, visited the sixth form at Winchmore School, in Laburnham Grove, on April 15.

During his talk Dr Hasan discussed the recent cases of young people in the UK who had been influenced by radical beliefs.

Sixth Form student Andrew Stimson said: “Dr Hasan brought a new perspective that we don’t usually see from the media.

“He discussed the stereotypes surrounding the issues of extremism and the different reasons why people become radicalised. It was a valuable lesson and helped to improve our tolerance and understanding."

Head of sixth form Lisa Hughes said: “It is important that as a school we address the challenges of living in a globalised world whilst promoting The Quilliam Foundation’s ideals of religious freedom, quality, human rights and democracy.”
