Candidates for the three constituencies in the borough are giving the Enfield Independent five reasons why voters should choose them on May 7.

Joe Simpson, Enfield North candidate for the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC), has told the Enfield Independent his reasons why he should be the next MP.

I am standing to be a workers' MP on a worker's wage. We have seen too many who are on ‘the take’; who take a big salary and then fiddle their expenses. They live in a different world to the rest of us.

Private landlords are raking in huge profits while the amount of social housing declines. I will fight to bring back rent control and for the resources to build decent council housing that local people can afford.

I want to fight for rights at work, for example we need a minimum wage of at least £10 hour now. I have represented people through my union for many years and I am now deputy general secretary of the POA union.

We have to save the NHS, but all the big parties pay lip service while undermining it. I think we need a party that is clearly for the NHS as a service and against profiteering from people’s health needs – that is why I think we need to build a new party; TUSC is where we start.

I was a Labour supporter for years because I thought it put people before profit – but that isn’t true any longer. When you think about the state of the world and the need to protect our environment, there is a desperate need for something that does support those values.
