Soaring GCSE results have resulted in an all girls school reaching the top ten per cent of English schools.

St Anne’s Catholic High School, in Oakthorpe Road, Palmers Green, saw more than 80 per cent of its students get at least five A* to C GCSE grades including English and maths for the second successive year.

As a result the school has now qualified for two education awards from the Schools, Students and Teachers Network (SSAT) for being in the top ten per cent nationwide for progress and for GCSE attainment.

Headteacher Siobhan Gilling said, “We are thrilled that our hard work has been recognised nationally. This can only be achieved with a committed staff and with young people who are determined to learn and make the most of their skills and talents.”

Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for education, children’s services and protection added: “Congratulations to everyone at St Anne’s. National recognition demonstrates the superb quality of teaching and learning at the school and it is thoroughly well-deserved.”

SSAT chief executive Sue Williamson said: “St Anne's Catholic High School for Girls should be congratulated for exceptional achievement. They have proved themselves to be leading the field in improving GCSE outcomes for their students.

“These results are testament to the commitment and hard work of the students, teachers and leadership team at St Anne's and show what can be achieved when skilled teachers have high expectations and ambition for every young person. I am proud that this school is a member of the SSAT network.”

The ceremony will be hosted at Holland Park School, in West London, on May 12.
