It was ready, steady, cook for a set of students when a celebrity chef visited and Enfield school.

Paul Rankin put students at Oasis Academy Enfield, in Innova Park, through their paces as they competed in a Masterchef-style competition, each recreating one of the chef’s dishes.

The school won a competition to have the celebrity chef come to the school for the day when two students created winning menus for a national events hosted across all Oasis Academy schools.

Cherlene Plank, 15, and Fatet Hamad, 13, created the menus and said it was an “honour” to have Mr Rankin join the school for a day.

Cherlene said: “It’s quite nerve-wracking to have him at the school looking over you when you are making his dishes but also an honour to be helped by someone like him.”

The celebrity chef also delivered a masterclass to sixth form pupils and created a lunch dish to serve to hungry students.

Mr Rankin said: “I always enjoy coming in to schools to help children learn about cooking and taking it to the next step and today there has been a lot of positives.

“They have worked hard on the dishes, some of which I created on Ready, Steady, Cook a long time ago.

“I think the key for all aspiring chefs is to keep working hard and be as pushy as possible when trying to find work experience and a job.”

Cauline Ellis, food technology teacher at the school, said: “We have a lot of talented boys and girls at this school who want to learn more about cooking. They have been able to learn so much from Paul and I want to thank Sodexo who have provided us with facilities to let our students shine in the kitchen.”
