Leaders at Enfield Council could commit to freeze council tax for the sixth consecutive year next week.

The council's cabinet will decide on Wednesday whether to keep the council tax at the same level.

If agreed, the bill for an average band D household would remain at £1,100.34 for the 12 months from April.

Papers at the meeting will show government funding for the council has dropped by £21 million for 2015/16 compared with 2014/15.

The proposals include savings and additional income of £32.1 million, with around £17 million proposed to come from departmental savings and a further £15.1 million from Enfield 2017 scheme.

Councillor Andrew Stafford, cabinet member for finance, said: “We need to make sure that every penny counts during these tough economic times to protect and deliver the vital services our residents need in the face of consistently shrinking budgets.

“This year’s budget will mean difficult decisions for the cabinet and the council but one thing is certain; we will do everything we can to insulate residents from the impact of the savings we will make this year and in coming years, while producing a prudent and sensible budget which delivers services in the most efficient way possible.”
