Schoolchildren filled St Paul’s Cathedral with song as they performed to more than 2,000 worshippers.
Pupils from Bishop Stopford’s School, in Brick Lane, Enfield, sang in honour of former Bishop of Edmonton Peter Wheatley, who retired last year.
Led by Karen Gibson, the children performed for 30 minutes at the historic cathedral, which was packed with members of churches in Enfield, Haringey, Camden and Barnet.
Jon Seabrook, assistant headteacher at Bishop Stopford’s, said: “It is a real honour for the choir to be part of this celebration. Bishop Peter has been a frequent visitor at our school and we will miss him greatly.”
A member of the congregation from St Mary’s Enfield said: “It was wonderful to see the pupils singing their hearts out, they really helped make this a special occasion for Bishop Peter.”
