A pharmacist whose shop's CCTV cameras captured footage of a boy being hit by a bus said the teenager ‘never stood a chance’.

Jigneth Patel, of Wise Pharmacy, in Fore Street, watched in shock as the schoolboy, believed to be 13, was knocked over by the 129 bus at around 8.17am.

Despite paramedics trying to resuscitate the boy, he was pronounced dead on the way to hospital.

Mr Patel said: “He came darting out of the side road as he tried to get a bus on its way towards Tottenham.

“As he gets into the road, the bus comes down the road. He never stood a chance. The bus driver would not have seen him until very late, there was nothing they could do, it is terribly tragic.”

Mr Patel told the Enfield Independent that a similar incident happened about a year ago and has called for pedestrian railings in the street to be reintroduced.

He said: “They got rid of pedestrian railing a few years ago and you see people walking out at any time of the day which is dangerous. Sadly we have seen this happen today.”

The police are urging any witnesses to come forward. No arrests have been made.
