Three senior teachers have been reinstated to their positions after being suspended last month for gross misconduct.

Cuckoo Hall Primary Academy executive headteacher Patricia Sowter, headteacher Sharon Ahmet and Phil Sowter, director of Cuckoo Hall Academies Trust, were suspended in December following allegations of gross misconduct.

The primary academy, in Cuckoo Hall Lane, Edmonton, has now welcomed back the Patricia Sowter and Sharon Ahmet following a ‘six-hour’ board meeting.

Mr Sowter was brought back to the board of trustees on January 8.

In a statement from the academies trust, it claims that the board was “entirely satisfied” that there was no evidence to suspend the trio.

It reads: “The board was entirely satisfied with the outcome of those interviews and concluded with a unanimous vote that the evidence provided in support of the allegations did not support any charge of misconduct let alone gross misconduct.

“The allegations will not therefore be the subject of disciplinary proceedings against either Patricia Sowter or Sharon Ahmet and both will be returning to work shortly.”

Former chairman of the trust Andry Efythimou was allegedly voted off of the board unanimously.

The Department of Education is yet to publish its report into the allegations of gross misconduct and is continuing to investigate the trust.

The trust itself received two external reports - one by the Education Funding Agency and the other by an independent investigation commissioned by the board – in order to make its decision.

Following the meeting, the trust’s interim chairman, Marino Charalambous, said “The board has voted unanimously to lift the suspensions of Patricia Sowter and Sharon Ahmet and looks forward to welcoming them back to work.

“The conclusions of two very detailed external reports showed the evidence did not stack up in support of any charge of misconduct of any sort. We are delighted that they will both be returning to continue the progress in ensuring excellent outcomes for all our pupils.

“The board and teachers of Cuckoo Hall Academy Trust remain deeply committed to our mission to drive up the quality of education provision and standards in the area”.

Another governor of the trust, Donald Graham paid homage to Mrs Sowter and Ms Ahmet and states that have been “vindicated” during the investigations.

He said: “The board recognises the regrettable damage that has been done at a very personal level to the reputations of these two senior teachers and academic leaders at the Trust who have been vindicated by this process."
