A property developer has been chosen to work on a £160 million regeneration plan.

Enfield Borough Council appointed Countryside as its partner for the multi-million scheme in New Avenue, in Southgate.

More than 450 new homes will be built on the site.

Apartments in Shepcot House, Coverack Close and Beardow Grove will be demolished for the homes, which will include 311 homes for private sale and 140 affordable properties.

A pre-school nursery and community centre will also be built.

Countryside chief executive Richard Cherry said: “We are delighted to have been selected as the preferred bidder for New Avenue and we look forward to working with Enfield Council to deliver much needed new housing.”

Councillor Ahmet Oykener, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for housing and estate regeneration, said: "The selection of Countryside as our development partner for the New Avenue scheme is an important step towards the regeneration of the estate and the council’s commitment to ultimately deliver thousands of much needed new homes across the borough.”
