A scheme to help more people cycle is gathering momentum as more than 100 people sign up.

The cycling scheme offers specially adapted bikes for people who are disabled, have learning difficulties or those whose age may make ordinary bikes difficult, the freedom to cycle through Bush Hill Park.

The specially adapted bikes first came to Bush Hill Park last year and are available from Tuesday to Friday from 10.30am until 1.30pm.

Enfield Council is urging people to try out the adapted bicycles.

Councillor Chris Bond, cabinet member for environment, said: “As part of the wider Cycle Enfield project we are looking to ensure that all residents get an equal chance to get on their bikes, regardless of age or disability.

“The Bush Hill Park Inclusive Cycling Scheme is fantastic as it allows whole families to cycle together, get out into our beautiful green spaces, and feel confident on a bike, sometimes for the first time. I would urge as many people as possible to come along and see for themselves just how much fun this is.”

Peter Cripps, from Bush Hill Park, a regular user of the service, said: “The staff were very good at helping me as I have not been riding bikes for 17 years. I am 84 years old and this scheme has enabled me to get back on a regular bike. With a bit of encouragement it all just came back to me."
