People will get the chance to express their views on crime and policing in the area this evening.

Deputy Mayor for policing and crime Stephen Greenhalgh and Enfield police are calling on residents to attend the Your Police, Your Say meeting at the Civic Centre, in Silver Street, at 6.30pm.

The meeting comes following the introduction of of the Mayor’s Police and Crime Plan in March 2013.

Since the plan, crime has dropped by eight per cent in Enfield with 994 fewer crimes.

Mr Greenhalgh said: “As our changes to strengthen local policing take effect it’s vital that we hear what local residents and businesses have to say.

“I’d encourage local people in Enfield who want to know more about what the mayor’s office and the Met Police are doing in their area to come along.”

Borough Commander for Enfield Jane Johnson said: “The introduction of the local policing model has significantly benefited Enfield with the addition of 83 more police officers to the borough.

“Crime continues to fall with reductions in burglary, robbery, motor vehicle and criminal damage. I am very pleased to also see the confidence of our communities is increasing, with 72 per cent of people feeling that the police in Enfield do a good job.”

“There is still room for improvement but the direction of travel is positive. I am also very keen that our victims are satisfied with the quality of service they receive and again we are making positive progress, we know that if the police response is professional it can really help reduce the victim impact.

“I remain concerned about public space violence and we will be working hard to target gangs and to deal with other areas where there are high incidences of violent crime.”
