A woman has been ordered to pay more than £800 after parking illegally using a disabled blue badge.

Wura-Ola Ojora was found guilty of the offence at Tottenham Magistrates Court in a prosecution by Enfield Borough Council. She was fined £400, ordered to pay £426 costs and a £40 victim surcharge.

The court heard she had parked partially inside a pay and display bay and on a single yellow line in Hertford Road, while displaying a blue badge but with no parking ticket.

When questioned she said she had dropped the badge holder in town and that she was allowed five minutes' free parking.

Enfield Council’s cabinet member for environment and community safety Councillor Chris Bond said: “This woman has just been given 866 reasons not to misuse a disabled blue badge.

"It beggars belief that people still think they can get away with parking illegally with badges that don’t belong to them. We have prosecuted a significant number of people for blue badge fraud, and we’ll continue to do so.

“My advice for people considering this crime is, it’s just not worth it. Act in a lawful manner, buy a parking ticket and park properly and you won’t end up with a huge fine for fraudulently using someone else’s blue badge, it's hardly rocket science. If you decide not to, Enfield Council will find you and prosecute you.”
