A man celebrating his 104th birthday has revealed his peculiar diet that has seen him to the milestone.

Michael Lenoudios, became 104 on Sunday, November 9, at Autumn Gardens Care Home, in Southgate.

Celebrating with daughter Darinka Cotzias and her husband Costa, Mrs Cotzias revealed her father’s love of two foods.

She said: “Anytime we come here he is always eating mints and kitkats, that’s what he loves to eat. We are here every morning and without fail he will have them. It isn’t your usual diet but at 104, he does what he wants.”

Originally born to a wealthy family in Alexandria, Egypt, Mr Lenoudios had to flee the country with his family in 1961 when the Nasser regime took hold of the country.

The family moved to Cyprus, the birthplace of his father, where him and his wife Madeleine until 1974 where on return from holidaying in London, their home had been lost to refugees who refused to leave.

“He is a big fan of hunting and shooting” said his son-in-law Costas. “He used to always help out at a church in Wood Green before moving into here.”

Michael moved into the care home when he was 98 where, after suffering a broken hip, he learnt to walk again and refused to leave the home once he had made a full recovery.

Mrs Cotzias said: “They treated him so well here that he just didn’t want to leave. We are so proud of him and how well he is doing.

“He certainly doesn’t feel his age.”
